The work will reduce the risk of flooding to 20 properties on Grange Crescent from the River Stour.Flooding last occurred here in July 2007 and September 2008.
A new flood bank, up to 1 metre in height and over 50 metres in length will be constructed along the river, as well as repair and realignment of an existing earth flood bank. A new 35 metre long flood wall to the existing subway will also be constructed. Construction will be carried out by G.F.Tomlinson & Sons Ltd.
The scheme is being jointly funded by the Midlands Regional Flood and Coastal Committee and Dudley MBC. Councillor Patrick Harley, cabinet member for transportation, said:
“Dudley Council is working in partnership with the Environment Agency to reduce the risk of flooding in our borough.”
The Agency said that combining flood defence and footpath improvement construction work would reduce the overall costs of the scheme. Environment Agency Technical Specialist, Neil Lote, added:
“Since the flooding of 2008 we have been working very closely with the teams at Dudley council. This scheme is just one example of the partnership that we are strengthening for the future benefit of local communities.”
